Photo Gallery: Indochina - Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam

Indochina, or the Indochinese Peninsula (also known as Mainland Southeast Asia), historically refers to the continental portion of Southeast Asia lying east of India and south of China. Indochina originates from the French "Indochine", a combination of the names "India" and "China", referring to the location of the territory between those two countries. The countries of mainland Southeast Asia received cultural influence from both India and China to varying degrees. Some cultures, such as those of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia are influenced mainly by India with a smaller influence from China. Others, such as Vietnam, are more influenced by Chinese culture with only minor cultural influences from India, largely via the Champa civilization that Vietnam conquered during its expansion to the south. The region experienced colonial rule in the 19th century up until the mid-20th century by France as well as Britain.

Our photo gallery is a snapshot of a recent journey to this magical part of Asia. While Cambodia with its sensational ruins of Angkor may be the main attraction, there is much more to be discovered. Cambodia will steal your heart and enrich your spirit. In Laos on the other hand you will experience rolling mountains, remote villages, tribal crafts and the magic of the Mekong. You will leave with irreplaceable memories of smiling locals, saffron-robed monks and markets awash with fresh produce. Laos is bliss in every sense. Then there is Vietnam which will douse you with a myriad of colours and natural beauty bringing you a new adventure every day. Discover Hanoi's lively streets, visit villages or sail on magic Halong Bay. Once you have left Vietnam you want to come back for more.
